KOKO

Air resistance is the single most critical factor that separates a fast bike from a bike that cuts through the air like a bird. KOKO means “to soar, fly” in Maori and as the name suggests, our Top Tier Aero Road model will have you smiling from ear to ear from the sheer thrill of unadulterated speed.

To Soar And Fly

Taking the RERE’s Aero credentials to the next level, the KOKO now has Kamm-Tail incorporated into the downtube, increasing the overall stiffness of the bottom bracket and headtube by 13.35% and 35.64% respectively. Married to our aerodynamically optimised and ergonomic MANA bar, the combination makes for a super sleek high-performance racing machine.

MANDRELS

Each KOKO frames front triangle is moulded using a one-piece Latex Mandrel.

The use of a Latex Mandrel for each size ensures that the pre-preg carbon wall thickness and resin flow is carefully controlled during production.

The use of High-Tensile Directional Toray Carbon in bottom bracket and headtube increases front triangle torsional stiffness. The combination of both these processes improves the frames overall performance.

FULLY INTEGRATED

By integrating the cabling and hydraulic hoses the KOKO presents a clean visual and aerodynamic profile. The fork crown blends with the headtube contributing to the seamless elegance.

When used with our MANA Bar the full aerodynamic benefits of the KOKO are unlocked. Plus it’s practical with our system of Quick-Fit spacers permitting easy adjustment of bar height and quick disassembly should you wish to travel with your KOKO.

Adjustable
compliance

The KOKO’s adjustable compliance allows riders to tweak the ride quality to suit their personal needs. Often simple ideas have the biggest impact on complex engineering problems. By installing the seatclamp in the lower position, the increased cantilever action of the seatpost will increase the compliance by up to 8.5% allowing the KOKO to glide over rough road surfaces and keeping you fresh when you decide to go solo.

Two levels of compliance

THE KOKO IS DESIGNED TO HAVE 2 LEVELS OF COMPLIANCE.

1

Normal Position: With the seatclamp in position 1 (facing up), the compliance is set to Normal. In this position the KOKO will still glide over any road chatter with ease providing you with the confidence to go full gas.

2

Increased Compliance: With the seatclamp in position 2 (facing down), the comfort level is set to Optimized Compliance. In this position the KOKO will be able to handle even unsealed rough roads without missing a beat.

AERODYNAMICS

Air! The one invisible element in cycling that you’re constantly fighting to punch a hole through. The KOKO uses a number of aerodynamic features to make sure you don’t waste an ounce of energy slicing through the air.

The downtube has been shaped to ensure air flowing over the front wheel onto the downtube is carefully managed to reduce drag.

The Kamm-Tail section adds stiffness in the fuselage connecting the key areas of the headtube and bottom bracket, to deliver great handling and power transfer. The Kamm-Tail section seattube is wrapped around the rear wheel allowing up to 32mm of tire clearance, yet tight enough to not disturb airflow across the seattube and rear wheel.

First developed for the Automobile Industry by Wunibald Kamm in the 1930s, Kamm-Tail is a phenomenon where an Airfoil’s tail is truncated at a sharp angle whereby the air continues to flow as if the Airfoil is still whole.

A pure Airfoil profile is long and narrow, not structurally efficient at resisting the lateral forces applied to a bicycle frame via the handlebars and pedalling action. The truncated Kamm-Tail profile offers the best of both worlds. An Aerodynamically efficient section that also provides stiffness needed to deliver great performance.

KOKO VS RERE

THE COMPARISON

To understand the improvements we’ve made when making the KOKO we compared it to the RERE. Carbon fibre lay-up in a monocoque structure is both engineering and art, balancing many aspects of design that push and pull in different directions. The Kamm-Tail profiled KOKO is an all-out aero racing chassis with just the right specification of carbon hand laid into custom stainless-steel moulds to deliver exceptional steering agility via improved headtube stiffness. Additionally, the service friendly T47BB and directional carbon in the bottom bracket makes for a super-efficient way of converting every pedal stroke into forward motion.

GEOMETRY

The KOKO has been designed to be consistent with other Chapter2 frames – if you ride a Medium RERE you will be a medium KOKO for example. The subtly lower stack dimension compared to the TOA will ensure that you can get into a more efficient aero position. The 73mm BB drop also ensures that your centre of gravity is low to the ground improving both control and balance at speed. Frame measurements are in mm, rider heights in cm.
